Spring

Spring semester is the best time for new recruits to come out and learn the game. Our spring semester is more of an off-season, and we primarily will be playing in tournaments consisting of 40 minute matches. Unlike the fall the matches, spring matches could be against teams from division I, II, & III. Just because this is our off-season doesn’t mean we don’t compete and want to win. This season is even more intense, because once your body is beaten down from one match it is beaten yet again in the next matches that follow, but the adrenalin pumping through your veins will take care of that. You’re simply a different person when out on the field, a person who does whatever it takes to keep the game flowing and score another try. This game takes dedication and although we will accept anyone who shows up, we also don’t appreciate when someone shows up to only give it a fraction of their potential. There is no need to think that rugby is “too tough” for you. As I stated before there is a position for everyone on the field, and when everyone finds that place where they belong the game is smooth like butter. You just have to possess the confidence that you will eventually find that place, and once you do this will be the greatest sport that you will ever be a part of.

Fall

As the beautiful weather dies out our desire to rule the grass and kick some ass only grows stronger. This is the best time for new recruits to come out to field behind Building F in Slippery Rock to learn the game of Rugby. This is by no means a stressful environment, as in anyone who wants to learn how to play this sport and give their all is welcome. Rugby is a game that does not discriminate, for any shape or sized person can find a place on the field suitable for them. In the fall semester we play 80 minute games against primarily Division II teams, but we never turn down a challenge from any team despite their division. A match is a match and one who truly loves the sport is always prepared for another. We play with everything we’ve got for all 80 minutes of every game, and once the game is over it’s time to socialize and even sing a few traditional songs. This game brings the players together in a brotherly way. The rugby team is a second family away from home. We win as brothers, we lose as brothers, and we go through it all together as brothers.
